The Fifth Season was in my opinion not up to scratch with what Desperate Housewives should have been, my first problem- Katherine Mayfair. This new "fiesty" housewife joins the regular cast as the "6th Housewife" in this season. She was the most pointless character on the show this season and it's a real shame that they wasted so much airtime on her (she didn't get a lot, thank god but what she had was wasted).
The episodes had their moments and there was, I'll admit, some very good episodes this season. With this season taking plac 5 years after the events of the Season 4 finale, Edie moves back onto the lane (Thank you lord!) and brings with her a new husband, Dave Williams. When this season started, the mystery had such a spark that I thought it would keep me on the edge of my seat but unfortunately, it didn't. I felt that the mystery was overshadowed by other, smaller stories.
Now this is where Marc Cherry ruined the show - Episode 18 of this season, Edie's Death. I loved the way it happened but I'm sorry to say, when Edie died, I think a little bit of what kept me watching died with her, It was completely the wrong decision and it annoyed me that it happened. Her send off was okay, the flashbacks in her final episode were okay, nothing special, though my favourite was Gabby and Edie's, loved the bar scene and then he sweet scene they had in the park. I felt the episode seemed rushed and was just another flashback episode, the sweet thing was though, the Housewives spreading Edie's ashes across the lane (Katherine wasn't there, haha).
Overall the finale was satisfying, the cliff hanger was quite disappointing when comapred with the other cliff hangers from shows in the 2008-2009 season that i have watched, the best part of the finale, Edie appered briefly! yay! I loved seeing her there agan, made me smile.
Now i'm going to give the Sixth season the benefit of the doubt, I will watch but I'm afraid if it cant keep me interested, it will no longer be my favourite show. However, I would still recommend the Fifth season for anyone wanting to watch it, if you can't online, the DVD is available on September 1, 2009 In the US.
